Himalayas


Himalayas has the worlds most highest peak and youngest mountain ranges formed within a short period of time. The mountain is uplifted with metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. This mountain is the formation of, result of continental collision about a period of 70 million years ago. According to a modern theory, this collision made the rocks to move 15 cm per year. The sedimentary rocks remain in the ocean floor while the volcanoes are formed at its edges. Since these rocky substances are light particles they meshed into mountain ranges rather than sinking. It separates total of six countries ,Afghanistan, Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan, China and India. Himalaya ,the word it means in sanskrit, house of snow. Himalaya composed of over 100 mountain ranges, with highest peak exceeding over 7200 meters. Over 15000 glaciers are present in this mountain ranges and ca store about 12000 km cubic of fresh water. Himalaya's snow drains down into major rivers like ,indus ,ganges, brahmaputra, yamuna. The ecology in these regions are highly dependable and varies with the climate, rainfall, altitude and soils. There are variety of communities for plants and animals which varies along with the climate and altitude components. The vegetation starts from the base of the mountains to permanent ice in the peaks level.
