Cicadas drink tree sap. they have a lot of liquid inside them after a full meal. when they're about to be caught and want to fly away they dump some of the liquid so that they wil not weigh so much. Tree sap is the principal food of cicadas. they take the necessary nourishment and water from the sap, with waste matter and fluid accumulating in a rectal pouch. If it is necessary, the waste can be released and disposed of all at once through the anus. Only male cicadas produce sounds. They make the sounds to call females at a fixed time of day, depending on the kind of cicada. The blackish cicadas, for example, make buzzing sounds in low places early in the day. Each kind of cicada cries at a certain time of day or night.
