Photography cannot rival moving film in recording action of course, but a series of photographs can be most informative' and the sequence may cover any period of time from a few seconds to several years. A sequence should be rather like a scene from a film or play; it should tell a fairly brief story-if it wanders too far the pictures are likely to lose any connection with each other. Take a picture of your garden, or some local beauty spot, in each of the four seasons and there we have a sequence. The motor drive is used when the photographer wants to make sure of capturing the most exciting slice of a piece of action-as when a racing car crashes, or a jumper or vaulter is flying through the air. It is possible to shoot extremely rapidly, even without using a motor drive attachment. The one-stroke film advance lever of a single lens reflex camera makes it possible to shoot five or six pictures in as many seconds. As with everything in photography it is the unusual idea which pays off and makes for the most widely interesting pictures.
