Why Do Hyenas Eat Other Animals' Food?

Hyenas eat leftovers from animals that lions have killed, and they eat other dead animals too. That kind of meat is called carrion. It's not always rotten. But even if it is, hyenas can eat it. They don't get sick because their bodies are not harmed by germs in rotting food. Hyenas have sturdy jaws that can crush bones, and strong digestive juices that make them excellent scavengers. Their gastric juices are bactericidal so they do not become sick even after eating food that has been rotting. The spotted hyena usually gets its food by hunting or by stealing prey.
