
We get hungry when our stomach becomes empty. Just after we eat, our stomach is full, but our body digests the food and our stomach becomes empty again. When all the food is our of the stomach we get hungry. We usually feel hungry if there is no food in the stomach, but we might also feel hunger pangs if our blood sugar becomes low. Hunger is registered by the hypothalamus in the brain. This important supervisory centre regulation many body functions and is sensitive to increases and decreases in our blood sugar level. This relates to the amount of nutrition contained in the blood at a given time.
