Why Does It Snow More On One Side of Mountains?

In winter cold winds blow from the sea to the land. They bring clouds that hit the mountainside and rise. The tops of mountains are cold and cool the clouds. When that happens snow falls on the side of the mountains facing the sea. Most of the snow is gone before the clouds reach the other side of the mountain. Cold winter winds blow across the northern oceans and pick up large amounts of water vapor. When they reach land the clouds come into contact with mountains, rise and become even colder. Most of the water vapor picked up over the ocean falls at this time as snow. When the winds come down on the opposite side of the mountain the moisture is depleted, so the snow stops, the clouds vanish and the weather is fine.
