Composition with Color

For as long as photography had been in existence experiments aimed at producing color pictures were being performed, but it was not until the early years of the twentieth century that the first really successful color pictures were made. Modern color produces a very accurate reproduction of the colors of the world around us. Color sets mod, and it does this more effectively in photographs than in real life. Good color photography relies on more then just an interesting subject; it also requires a pleasing mixture of hues, or a predominance of one. Subdued color is often the best color. The viewer can then appreciate the subject for itself, without being distracted by color appearing in the picture for on other reason than that it is colorful. Color has a potentially dangerous quality which it is important to be aware of :it will impart its own hue to objects close to it. If we take a portrait of someone leaning ion the bonnet of a red car in bright light, then red light will bounce up into the face-gibing us a subject looking like a lobster. Remember that only rarely is color a subject in itself: color is simply the way light dresses up the world.
