A crayfish uses its large claws to catch food like tadpoles and fish. If the fish is large, the crayfish cuts it up with the smaller claws on its other legs. That way it's easier to eat. If the crayfish catches a tiny fish of something else small, it eats it whole, without cutting it up. The crayfish has five pairs of legs along the sides of its abdomen. On the front pair, the claws are so large and heavy that they get in the way of walking. They are useful for catching food, however, and for lighting. Facing an enemy, the crayfish may wave its claws about to display strength, using them in some what the same way a person uses his hands.
