Because pond skaters are so light, they can stand on the water with their long legs. At the end of each leg there are loots of fine, thin hairs. The hairs are waterproof, so the pond skater doesn't sink. The pond skater moves with a sort of skating motion on water, taking advantage of what is known as surface tension. Fine hairs on the insect's feet repel the water and help keep he insect afloat. The ends of its thin legs are angled sideways so they do not break through the film on the water's surface. Pond skaters stand on their four long legs. There are two in the middle and two in back. they use two short front legs to catch insects that fall into water. They have a tongue like a needle, and when they catch an insect they suck out its juices with their tongue.
so genius
