Why Does the Male Bowerbird Decorate Its Nest So Carefully?

The male bowerbird gathers brush to build a nest, called a bower, which he decorates with whatever he can find. He will mate with a female in the bower, but first he has to attract her by having the most beautiful bower. That's why he spends a lot of time building and decorating it. The male of various species of bowerbirds, found in Australia and New Guinea, builds and decorates a structure called a bower to attract a female. The male bowerbird will collect feather, plastic and various other colorful objects to decorate its bower. When the bower is finished the male calls a female and attempts to attract her favor by dancing in front with his beak. If the female is impressed, she enters the bower and mates with its builder. After they mate the female goes away and builds her own nest, in which she lays her eggs.
