The full length Portrait

A portrait should do more than pleas the person portrayed: if it is to be a successful picture it must have something of interest even for those people who may never have met the sitter. And that does not mean your sitter must be a beautiful girl or an Adonis interesting design and interesting lighting are the important things. Fortunately, simplicity is the essence of the best portraiture; fine detail is only a distraction-especially in the background. The subject for a full-length portrait need not necessarily be standing up, although whatever pose is adopted should look comfortable and relaxed. A full-length subject requires more attention to lighting than does a head and shoulders portrait, for there is more to be lit. Remember that day light from a large window is especially good for portraits, but bounced flash is a very good substitute and will provide a pleasing overall lighting of soft quality.
