What Makes Ice Melt?

When ice is warmed it melts and turns into water again. Ice will melt when the temperature rises higher than the freezing point. Before the invention of the refrigerator ice was highly valued. It was easily available in winter but was difficult to keep in hot weather. Ice was put into deep holes in the ground lined with straw, inside special ice houses or in other insulators. Ice cubes will free together if we put salt on them. Put several different kinds of things on top of a block of ice. The heavier a thing is the more it pushes down on the ice and melt sit. Gradually the object will sink into the ice as it melts. Ice won't last long in the sunshine or a warm breeze.
