They say the camera never lies. But it does, sometimes outrageously. And never more than when the photographer is confusing the senses by distorting perspective. The standard lens of a camera sees things in much the same perspective as out eyes although as we have binocular vision we are able to use out eyes as a sort of rangefinder, and we can assess distance much more accurately than a photograph can suggest it. It is when the photographer switches lenses that deception creeps in. A choice of lenses introduces great versatility into your photography. Where there is no background detail the telephoto lens can be used without fear of distortion, effectively bringing the photographer nearer to the subject.
